TEACHING AND SUPERVISION
Teaching
During his career Timo has taught a wide range of subjects across undergraduate and postgraduate courses, ranging from fashion and textile design studios to seminars and lecture series. All of his teaching is grounded in sustainability and social justice in fashion and textiles. Timo's student-centred teaching approach is focused on understanding each student’s aspirations and equipping them with the practical capabilities and industry knowledge required to work effectively in this rapidly changing field.
Supervision
Timo supervises both masters by research and PhD students. He prioritises working with students who focus on fashion and textiles transitions towards more sustainable and just futures. He challenges students to think about fashion sustainability beyond the narrow, neoliberal context in which it sits today and to position their work as part of a broader paradigm shift that will define the industry of the future. To date he has supervised four PhD students (two as primary supervisor) and three MDes (Research) students to completion.
Current HDR student research topics include mending services within fashion businesses, bacterial cellulose textiles, and seamless knitting, among others.
