Timothy Boye is an Associate Lecturer of Interdiciplinary Engineering at the University of Technology Sydney. His work engages with the human and social aspects of engineering, particularly focused on equity and diversity, disability, and working with and for communities.

Research
Timothy's research aims to identify and address barriers to inclusion and pariticipation in engineering and IT education, contributing to the development of more accessible and equitable educational environments. His research centres predominately on the experiences of students with disabilities investigating the challenges and opportunities they face. His work employs participatory research methodologies and a critical disability theory lens. This participatory approach involves actively collaborating with students with disabilities throughout the research process, from defining research questions to co-analyzing data and developing solutions. This inclusive approach ensures that the voices and experiences of participants are central to the research driving meaningful change.

Teaching
Timothy teaches first-year interdisciplinary engineering practice, engaging students in understanding the multifaceted role of engineers, emphasizing the development of essential skills, and exploring the human and social dimensions of engineering. His teaching approach centres on project-based learning, integrating real-world challenges such as the Engineers Without Borders Challenge into the classroom. Through this approach students develop innovative solutions for remote communities while enhancing their problem-solving skills and their understanding of the social impact of engineering.

Impact
Through his work, Timothy advances the understanding of equity and inclusion in engineering and IT education and drives meaningful change. His research has provided valuable insights into the experiences of students with disabilities, informing policy and practice to enhance accessibility in educational settings. He provides leadership in the equity and inclusion space through his role as the faculty's Undergraduate Academic Liaison Officer, ensuring students with disabilities are supported in the faculty. He is also a contributing member of several advisory groups, including the Australian Disability Clearinghouse for Education and Training’s Work-Integrated Learning Program Advisory Group, the Engineering Futures Initiative Consultative Group, and the FEIT Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee. In these roles, Timothy has led initiatives to improve accessibility in higher education and has contributed to the development of faculty-wide diversity and inclusion policies.
