BIO

Dr Vishal Gupta is a Researcher with Entrepreneur skills exploring the potential of algae (seaweed and micro-algae) to contribute mitigating the global challenge for climate, food and fuel and certainly as a source for generating revenue under inclusive growth model.

Dr. Gupta is a Team lead for seaweed research at C3.

He has multi-nation working experience in the field together with the implementation of multidisciplinary approaches exploring the potential of algae from basic biology to industrial context.

Significant advancement made by Dr. Gupta in the field include protoplasts based system for aquaculture/nursery development in seaweed and their use for production of hybrid varieties with improved functional traits. Bio-refining of algal biomass for multiple de-carbonized products including ethanol with no or minimal waste is another research path of Dr. Gupta towards sustainable development goals.

His unique skills include translational research towards utilization of aquatic/marine algal as genetic resource for transferring multi-stress tolerance traits to land crop system.

As recognition to his outstanding research, Dr Gupta has been awarded with various international awards/fellowships including INSPIRE (India), PBC (Israel), Postdoc Fellow Dalhousie University (Canada), Marie Curie Fellow (EU).

He is well proficient with 'omic-s' including genomics, metabolomics, and metagenomics.

His current research interest is towards development of seaweed hybrids with the development of highthroughput screening system, biostimulant development and their efficacy analysis on plants, highthroughput plateform development for mutant trait analysis.
