Wade Marynowsky

Dr Wade Marynowsky is a lecturer in Interaction Design, in the School of Computer Science, Faculty of Engineering and IT. He is also a creative robotics artist, specialising in the fields of Human-Robot Interaction (HRI) and Tangible, Embodied Interaction (TEI). Selected publications in the field include Cultural Robotics: Social Robots and Their Emergent Cultural Ecologies, Springer, 2023, and the Fourteenth International Conference on Tangible, Embedded, and Embodied Interaction, ACM, 2020.

Marynowsky has been an invited guest speaker at numerous international conferences including the IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation, ICRA2018, Brisbane, and the IEEE International Symposium on Robot and Human Interactive Communication (RO-MAN), Kobe, Japan, 2014.

His practice is characterised by large-scale robotic, sound, light, and interactive works that combine humour, and a host of unnerving thematics to absorbing affect. Exhibiting nationally and internationally since 1998 Marynowsky's work has been presented in major festivals, biennales, and survey exhibitions. For example, SIGGRAPH Asia 2021, Tokyo, and 2023, Sydney. Data life, Mechanical life, Synthesize life, The Beijing Media Arts Biennale, Central Academy of Fine Arts Museum, China, 2018. Of national significance, his mid-career survey exhibition Nostalgia for Obsolete Futures was held at the National Gallery of Victoria, in 2014.

Marynowsky has been awarded numerous competitive grants from the Australia Council for the Arts and has completed commissions for the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia, Campbeltown Arts Centre, Artspace Sydney, Performance Space, and Carriageworks Sydney.

Dr. Marynowsky is a highly reputable educator with twenty five years of experience in academia. Prior to UTS, Marynowsky was employed at Macquarie University (2014-2018) where he coordinated large student cohorts, across postgraduate research and undergraduate units of study.
