BIO

Dr Xingjian ZHANG (张行健) is a Chancellor's Research Fellow at the Centre for Quantum Software and Information within the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology (FEIT) at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), sponsored by Prof Mingsheng Ying. Dr Zhang's research focuses primarily on the theoretical aspects of quantum communication, quantum cryptography, and quantum computation.

Dr Zhang obtained his PhD in Physics from the Institute of Interdisciplinary Information Sciences (IIIS) at Tsinghua University in 2023 under the supervision of Prof Xiongfeng Ma. He was awarded the National Scholarship for Graduate Students of China (2021) and an Excellent Graduate from IIIS, Tsinghua University (2023). Prior to joining UTS in May 2026, Dr Zhang held several research positions across leading global institutions. He served as a visiting scholar at the University of Science and Technology of China (hosted by Prof Jian-Wei Pan and Prof Yu-Ao Chen), a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Hong Kong (hosted by Prof Giulio Chiribella and Prof Qi Zhao), and a visiting research fellow at the National University of Singapore (hosted by Prof Hoi-Kwong Lo).

Dr Zhang has established a strong track record of research excellence and global engagement, with over 30 publications to his name. His peer-reviewed journal articles are exclusively published in JCR Q1 journals, including premier, high-impact venues such as Nature, Nature Communications, Physical Review Letters, and PNAS. He is also a frequent presenter on the international stage, having delivered tutorial, invited, and contributed talks at leading quantum information and physics conferences, including IEEE-SUM, TQC, QCrypt, ISIT, and AQIS. Reflecting the global reach of his work, he maintains an extensive network of active collaborations across Asia, the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, and Europe.

Beyond his primary research, Dr Zhang is deeply committed to serving the global scientific community. He is a regular referee for leading peer-reviewed journals and international conferences, and his contributions were recognised with the prestigious 2026 Outstanding Referee Award from the American Physical Society (APS) for the Physical Review journals. Furthermore, his expertise has driven translation into quantum technology standards. As a major contributor, he participated in the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Focus Group on 'Quantum information technology for networks' (QIT4N-I-018) and co-authored the National Standard of China on 'General requirements for device-independent quantum random number generators' (GB/T 45240-2025).
