The rapid growth in economy and urbanisation increasingly induces environmental pollution and global warming, mainly caused by the burning of fossil fuels. This urges the development of new-generation clean energy conversion and storage technologies. My research is focused on designing and developing highly efficient electrocatalysts, including atomically dispersed catalysts, precious metal alloys, high entropy materials, and perovskite oxides, for use in energy conversion processes such as water splitting, fuel cells, and CO2 reduction reactions. Recently, we have concentrated on developing atomically dispersed electrocatalysts for these reactions, demonstrating that optimizing the coordination environment can significantly enhance catalyst efficiency, thereby improving electrochemical performance in various applications. This research is poised to contribute valuable insights into advanced materials, benefiting both academic circles and the industry sector, and paving the way for innovative clean energy technologies with substantial environmental and economic advantages for Australia.
My research accomplishments include:
1. Creating durable atomically dispersed precious metal catalysts for efficient hydrogen production (Nature Catalysis, Chemical Society Reviews, Nature Communications, Advanced Functional Materials, Small, etc.)
2. Exploring non-precious single atom catalysts through coordination environment engineering, enhancing fuel cell efficiency (Journal of the American Chemical Society, Angewandte Chemie, Advanced Materials, Advanced Energy Materials, etc.)
3. Developing metal compounds with modified electronic structures to boost catalytic activity and performance in water splitting (Nano Letters, Nano Energy, Nano-Micro Letters, Journal of Materials Chemistry A, etc.)
I have published 53 papers, 27 as first/corresponding author. Most of these papers were published in prestigious international journals such as Nat. Catal., Chem. Soc. Rev., Nat. Commun., Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., Adv. Mater., J. Am. Chem. Soc., Sci. Adv., Adv. Energy. Mater., Nano Lett.. Amongst them, eight are highly cited papers (1%, ESI) and three are hot papers (0.1%, ESI). My publications have attracted more than 6,500 citations with a h-index of 39. In addition, owing to these research outputs, I have been awarded “Beamline Award” 2020, “Top-up Award”, 2018 and Science HDR Student “Paper of the month”, 2017. I have also received two patents, delivered several oral presentations at international conferences with a high reputation, and served as an editorial board member for “Micromaterials and Interfaces” and guest editor for the journals “Energies”, “Materials” and “Discover Chemical Engineering” because of my research excellence.
I have received my BS from Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT) and dual PhD degrees from UTS and BIT. Since my graduation in 2018, I have worked as a postdoctoral research fellow at UTS and the University of New South Wales (UNSW), working with Professor Guoxiu Wang and Professor Rose Amal. In 2021, I joined Shanghai University working on both teaching and research. During my work at Shanghai University, I was a visiting scholar at the University of Toronto, collaborating with Professor Edward H. Sargent.
