BIO

Dr. Amanda Lizier is a Senior Lecturer in the Teaching, Learning, and Curriculum unit, part of the Education Portfolio at UTS, where her focus is on curriculum and assessment across the university. Prior to this role, Amanda was an academic teaching and researching in education at UTS and she is a Senior Fellow of Advance HE. Amanda completed her Masters and PhD degrees in education at UTS and a Postgraduate Diploma in psychology at Macquarie University. Prior to this she completed a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Sydney majoring in psychology, sociology and social policy before working as a learning professional within industry in the corporate and not-for-profit sectors for many years.

Amanda's research explores what it means to work and learn in complex contexts across industry and higher education. Informed by her extensive experience as a learning and development practitioner in the corporate sector, Amanda’s work and engagement aims to create a conduit between theory and practice, informing and improving workplace learning systems and practices. Her research interests include professional learning for academics, leadership in higher education, and learning through practice. Amanda’s research mainly uses complexity theory and practice approaches to understand the practices of work and learning in organisations with a particular focus on educators (broadly defined).

Across her extensive career in industry, Amanda has worked in blue chip organisations including Woolworths, Pfizer, and Blackmores, across a number of industries where she applied her expertise to strategically developing the learning function as well as organisational development. She has also worked in the not-for-profit sector in areas such as disability services. Amanda maintains her strong connections with industry through active engagement in projects and in professional bodies including the Australian Institute of Training and Development of which she is a Fellow.
