BIO

Damien Giurco is Chair of Circular Economy at The University of Melbourne and Adjunct Professor at the UTS Institute for Sustainable Futures.

With a focus on responsible prosperity, Damien has worked collaboratively with government and industry spanning the minerals, water, waste and energy sectors on strategy, modelling and policy. His published work spans over 150 technical reports, academic journal articles and online publications including in The Conversation. Damien has undertaken research funded by the Australian Research Council, Cooperative Research Centres and industry and by all levels of government, for example on international best practice in circular economy as input to the development of the NSW Circular Economy Policy Statement.

Damien co-chaired the inaugural World Resources Forum Asia Pacific, led the Wealth from Waste research cluster and served as Editor-in-chief for the journal Resources from 2015-2024. He was a foundation director of the Product Stewardship Centre of Excellence and member of the Expert Reference Group for the NSW 20 year waste strategy and led a research project on lithium and battery mineral certification and life cycle impacts in the Future Battery Industries CRC and co-ordinated UTS involvement in the NSW Decarbonisation Innovation Hub.

 

He currently leads a program on circular economy as part of the Solving Plastics Waste Cooperative Research Centre and is a deputy director in the Australian Research Council Training Centre on Resource Efficient Alloys in a Circular Economy.
