BIO
Dr Edward Bentrott is an expert in data science and data analytics applied to marketing. He is an experienced higher education leader as well as a leading corporate trainer of data analytics, machine learning and data literacy. He has been using supervised and unsupervised machine learning for over 25 years and was part of the original commercial implementation of the random forests algorithm.
Dr. Bentrott has experience in analytics course development and has taught statistics, economics, marketing, and analytics subjects at UTS. As an outstanding contributor to teaching and learning, he has won awards for PG instructor of the year as well as awards for teaching and coordinating very large UG subjects. He is a member of the Centre for Business Intelligence and Data Analytics (BIDA) is one of the founders of the UTS Business Analytics PG Program.
His insights into machine learning and statistical techniques have been applied in his consultation and training with numerous domestic and international organisations including CommBank, Optus, Revenue Canada, American Express, Starbucks, and Citibank. He has worked on projects with CRT Australia to detect important product and service features for rural retailers by using discrete choice methods combined with machine learning. In the not-for-profit sector, he has worked with the Sydney Heritage Fleet to determine features to increate visitation and booking of maritime vessel tours.
Dr Bentrott has authored many white papers, conference talks, and is a co-author of Marketing 6e with Elliot, et.al., a leading Australasian text in the market.
Before joining UTS, he worked in industry for 15 years as a QA manager at a large electronics company and head of Australasian technical consulting for Salford Systems (now Minitab). He is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley (BA, Political Theory), University of Iowa (MA, Economics) and UTS (PhD, Marketing).
