BIO

In the context of process safety, environment protection and energy-related projects, the research activities of Professor Kennedy have made significant fundamental and practical contribution.  Considering energy related research, we are currently developing processes (with industry partners) for the large-scale storage of CO2 via a process known as mineral carbonation, exploring technologies to convert waste glycerol, plastics  and biomass into useful products, developing catalysts for catalytic oxidation of ventilation air methane as well as exploring the use of a non-equilibrium plasma reactor for conversion of methane or low-grade fuels to hydrogen and BTX. In additon, we have studied the formation of toxic compounds in during thermal decomposition reactions (PFAS), discovering that dioxins and furans, which constitute a group of very toxic chemicals, can form during thermal decomposition and oxidation of treated timber and pesticide residues.  Our industry collaborators include Chart/Howden, BHP, QENOS, Ventia/Veolia and Licella Holdings.
