Dr Erica Ho is an Adjunct Fellow in The Dean's Unit at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) Business School and a strong advocate for a peer community approach to Higher Degree by Research (HDR) education. Her current research focuses on advancing researcher development and wellbeing by strengthening researcher identity and cultivating peer support communities.

Erica completed her PhD at the University of Sydney (USYD), where she was awarded the Paulette Isabel Jones PhD Completion Scholarship. Her research was also recognised by the Australasian Society for Computers in Learning in Tertiary Education (ASCILITE) with the ASCILITE Student Bursary Award. She used computational methods and data science to understand and design collaborative online environments for HDR students and their learning communities.

Her work includes studying student-initiated HDR online communities, conducting a comparative analysis of doctoral communities on Twitter and Reddit, examining the impact of anonymity on peer support, and developing an online platform for collaborative HDR learning. Her research provides evidence-based strategies for fostering peer learning and collaboration.

Before focusing on research, Erica taught at the University of Hong Kong (HKU) and the HKU School of Professional and Continuing Education (SPACE), where she gained extensive experience in student learning support. She received a Certificate of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education with outstanding performance from the University of Hong Kong. She was also honoured with the annual Best Tutor Award four times in her department.

Since 2019, Erica has coordinated HDR student learning groups and offered peer support for HDR students at the University of Sydney. She has also received grants and funding for projects dedicated to HDR development and student engagement. In 2024, she joined UTS Business School and started contributing her expertise to enhance Business HDR student wellbeing.
