George is a lecturer and researcher in Initial Teacher Education in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) at UTS where he specialises in Science Education and Classroom Management. George values his privileged position in Education and through his effective teaching, research and engagement, his work significantly contributes to classroom-ready and quality graduates.

In his current position, George is coordinating the secondary ‘Science Teaching Methods’ and ‘Professional Experience and Teaching Practice’ subjects in the Master of Teaching (Secondary Education) program and primary science in the BABEd. program. George’s coordination is underpinned by his strong passion for teaching and learning, a critical area in education where he has had a significant impact. This has been formally and consistently acknowledged at faculty and university level: FASS Dean’s Learning & Teaching Award (2019), FASS Remote Learning Award (2020) and the Vice-Chancellor’s Learning and Teaching Award (2021).

George’s research interests include Science Education, STEM Education, Teacher Quality and Teaching Performance Assessments (TPAs). He is currently working on three major research projects exploring Inquiry-based Learning (IBL), Indicators of Quality Teaching and The Validity of the Teaching Performance Assessment (TPA). The conclusions and recommendations from these projects will have a profound positive impact on education, contributing to curriculum initiatives and human resource development.

George is currently a member of the FASS Faculty Board and an associate member of the faculty's Centre for Research on Education in a Digital Society (CREDS) at UTS. Externally, he is currently a member of the Science Teachers Association NSW (STANSW), Assessment for Graduate Teaching (AfGT) national consortium and Australasian Science Education Research Association (ASERA). George has also held multiple roles at NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA), including examination committees, consultative committees, science stakeholder committees and Subject Matter Expert (SME) selection panels.

Prior to UTS, George was a science and mathematics teacher for more than twenty years, teaching in government and non-government schools in Vic. and NSW. In addition to his extensive teaching experience, he held numerous middle management and senior executive leadership positions, including Science Coordinator, Mathematics Coordinator, Year Coordinator (7-12), Director of Administration and Assistant Headmaster.
