Anna is an Associate Professor and Deputy Head of staff in the Accounting Discipline Group. Her research focuses on corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions and innovation. She has published in a number of peer reviewed journals and her research has been widely circulated in major media publications such as Forbes, SMH, and AFR. She has previously been a visiting scholar at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, New York University and Bocconi University.
Anna is the Program Director of Master of Professional Accounting and lectures in both undergraduate and postgraduate subjects on corporate business acquisitions. She has consistently been voted in the Top 20 lecturers lists. She has previously received the Postgraduate Business Prize for Excellence in Teaching Award (2018 and 2019), the Undergraduate Business Prize for Excellence in Teaching Award (2011 and 2019) and a Teaching Citation in 2018.
In addition to her research and teaching, Anna is passionate about widening participation and increasing student engagement. Anna is a board member of ActivateUTS and the Treasurer of Financial Research Network (FIRN). Prior to joining as a full time member, Anna completed her Honours degree with 1st class Honours and completed her PhD on the implementation of the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).- Academic

David Bedford is a Professor at UTS Business School in the Accounting Discipline. David is internationally recognized as a leading researcher in the field of management accounting and control. His research focuses on the design of performance measurement systems in firms pursuing different types of innovation, how combinations of management controls are designed to align to strategic objectives, the use of management controls in supporting organizational sustainability, and the role of accounting in deliverying public healthcare.
David has published his research in leading academic journals, including Accounting Organizations and Society, Management Accounting Research, and Journal of Management Accounting Research. David is an Associate Editor at the British Accounting Review and Journal of Management Control, and is an editorial board member of Accounting, Organizations and Society, Management Accounting Research, and European Accounting Review.
David is actively engaged with practice, having experience in collaborative projects with a range of government, industry, professional, and social enterprises, including ANZ, Telstra, Acciona, CPA Australia, NSW Health, the Independent Health Pricing Authority (IHPA), and the Cleaning Accountability Framework (CAF). He is an invited speaker at academic and industry conferences and is highly regarded in delivering tailored executive education and specialist training, covering topics such as performance management, data literacy, data informed decision-making, and cost management.- Academic

Martin Bugeja is a Professor of Accounting at UTS and was Discipline Group Head between 2015-2018. Prior to joining UTS in February 2009, Martin held an academic position in the Discipline of Accounting at the University of Sydney (1997-2009). Martin's current research interests focus on mergers and acquisitions, intangible assets, corporate governance and board of director compensation.
His research has been published in international journals including the The Accounting Review, Journal of Corporate Finance, Journal of Business, Finance and Accounting; British Accounting Review, Pacific Basin Finance Journal and Accounting and Business Research. He has also published in leading Australian journals including Accounting and Finance and Abacus. He currently serves as deputy editor of Accounting and Finance, and is on the editorial board of Accounting and Business Research and the Journal of Contemporary Accounting and Economics. Martin's research has been funded by external research grants from the ARC (Discovery Grant), Centre for International Finance Regulation and AFAANZ. Rina is a qualified chartered accountant and holds the position of Senior Lecturer within the Accounting Discipline Group of the UTS Business School.
Rina has 10 years of teaching and research experience at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), University of New South Wales (UNSW) and University of Sydney (USyd). She holds a PhD in Accounting from the University of New South Wales, with research publications in international accounting journals.

Tia is a qualified member of CPA Australia and holds the position of Subject Coordinator, Lecturer and Scholarly Teaching Fellow within the Accounting Discipline Group of the UTS Business School.
In recognition of Tia’s dedication to teaching and learning practices, she was awarded the 2014 UTS Learning and Teaching Award for her excellent contribution to teaching, learning and the student experience. She has also received a number of Business Prizes for Excellence in Teaching in both Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses throughout her career.

Dr. Samir Ghannam is a senior lecturer in accounting at UTS Business School. His research interests are in corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, director labour market, and board gender and cultural diversity. He has published in a number of peer-reviewed journals, including FT50 journals, such The Accounting Review and Contemporary Accounting Research. He has previously been a visiting scholar at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Bocconi University and HEC Paris. Samir’s work has been cited in a number of media outlets including Forbes. Dr. Matthew Grosse is a Senior Lecturer in Accounting at the UTS Business School, where he is the program director of the Master of Business Analytics and the accounting honours program coordinator. Matthew joined UTS in 2014, prior to joining UTS, Matthew completed a Bachelor of Business (Honours) in Finance and a Ph.D. in Accounting. During his Ph.D., Matthew was awarded a UTS scholarship and an Australian Finance and Accounting Association of Australia and New Zealand (AFAANZ) scholarship.
Matthew excels at teaching a range of subjects covering introductory accounting, analytics, financial statement analysis, and business valuation to both undergraduate and postgraduate students. His international teaching experience includes stints at the London School of Economics (LSE) and the London Business School (LBS).
Matthew conducts empirical archival research focused on Australian listed companies with a particular interest on the intersection of accounting information and capital markets, as well as corporate governance, CEO compensation, and the economics of auditing. His research has been published in a number of peer-reviewed journals, including Contemporary Accounting Research, Auditing: A Journal of Practice and Theory, Accounting & Finance, International Journal of Auditing, Australian Journal of Management, and the Australian Accounting Review.- Academic

Prior to joining UTS in July 2009, Peter has taught at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University in both accounting and finance disciplines, and, most recently, at the University of New South Wales. Apart from an academic career, Peter has also worked for a number of years in senior executive positions for multinational conglomerates, focusing on corporate finance, M&As and foreign direct investment projects across Hong Kong, China, Indonesia and Singapore. Roman Lanis joined the School of Accounting in 2004. He has undertaken research into the impact of culture on accounting systems development, with specific reference to the transitional economies of Eastern Europe. Recent research activities have included the development of a cross-cultural framework in the area of tax and accounting harmonisations.
Roman work has appeared in leading Eastern European economics journals. Roman other interests include the development of international accounting standards, their applicability to developing nations and the present state of accounting/business education in the former Soviet Republics.- Academic

Yolanda is an experienced researcher at the UTS Ageing Research Collaborative and an educator at the UTS Business School. She holds a Bachelor of Business (Honours) and a PhD in Accounting from UTS Business School. Prior to joining UTS, Yolanda worked as an in-house business consultant for large multinational companies. She also holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Political, Economic and Social Sciences from the University of Sydney.
Yolanda brings extensive experience in interdisciplinary research projects that employ both quantitative and qualitative methods. Her research on regulation and compliance related issues in Australian aged care sector has lead to a range of industry reports and submissions to the Commonwealth Government of Australia, including the widely cited biannual Australia’s Aged Care Sector report series. In addition to industry engagement, Yolanda published peer-reviewed research in leading health and accounting journals on topics related to regulation and compliance, corporate governance and management accounting.

Le (Hayley) Ma is a Senior Lecturer at Accounting Discipline Group at the University of Technology Sydney Business School. She is a member of the Methodological and Empirical Advances in Financial Analysis Research Group at University of Sydney, a member of Financial Research Network in Australia and a member of Accounting & Finance Association of Australia and New Zealand.
Prior to joining UTS in 2016, Hayley was a Sessional Lecturer at the University of Sydney Business School. Hayley has a PhD in accounting from University of Sydney, which studies the management and economic impact of intangible assets. Hayley was a visiting scholar at ESSEC Business School, Singapore and Renmin University, China in 2023, Harvard Business School and MIT Sloan School of Management, US, in 2020, and a visiting scholar at the Smeal College of Business Pennsylvania State University, US, in 2014.
Hayley's main research expertise is in corporate investment decisions in innovation, their impact on firm performance and value, and how innovation activities are reported and disclosed by firms. She also has extensive research experience in the information environment of capital markets, financial reporting and disclosure, advancing our understanding of investors’ investment decisions and business valuations. Hayley's research is transdisciplinary in nature, integrating knowledge of different disciplines to obtain comprehensive understanding of real business issues and provide practical solutions. Her research has been published in international and national leading journals including Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, International Journal of Production Economics, Pacific-Basin Finance Journal, Abacus, Accounting and Finance.
Hayley received the UTS Business School Early Career Research Achievement Award in 2021 because of her impact on corporate innovation research and contribution in enhancing the University’s research excellence through international research networks. She has also received internal and external competitive research grants such as Accounting & Finance Association of Australia and New Zealand Developing Researcher Grant and UTS Business Research Grants.
Hayley teaches financial statement and business analysis at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels at UTS. She has written three Harvard Case Studies with colleague at Harvard Business School. Hayley has supervised five Accounting Honours students since 2017, and has provided mentoring to the Higher Degree Research students at Accounting Discipline Group at the UTS Business School.
Apart from research and teaching, Hayley is also actively engaged with industry partners and government agencies. She has been invited to present her research at various stakeholder events including IP Australia, Australian Accounting Standards Board Research Forum, Oceania Stata Users Group Meeting.- Academic

Dr. Nelson Ma is an Associate Professor in Accounting at the UTS Business School. His research interests are in audit, corporate governance and aged care with a focus on understanding how to improve decision making and information disclosures in organisations to provide better outcomes to their stakeholders and society. Nelson has published widely in peer-reviewed academic journals in management, health, finance and accounting including Contemporary Accounting Research, Australian Journal of Management and Pacific-Basin Finance Journal.
He is co-lead of the Business and Strategy Theme in the UTS Ageing Research Collaborative (UARC) and a co-author of UARC's bi-annual Australia Aged Care Sector Report. His has been involved in over $500,000 in external research funding from government and industry organisations. This research and industry reports havee featured in Government policy documents and media outlets including ABC News, Forbes Magazine, the Australian Financial Review, the Guardian and the Sydney Morning Herald. His efforts in research engagement have been recognised with 2023 UTS Business School Achievement Award in External Engagement.
Nelson has taught at the postgraduate and undergraduate level in financial accounting, management accounting, auditing, corporate consolidation and business valuation featuring in the Business School's top teachers lists in 2023 and 2024. His contributions to student learning extend beyond the classroom with a focus on extra-curricular student development. Between 2018 and 2023, Nelson was faculty advisor of UTS Chapter of Beta Alpha Psi, a accounting, finance and IT honours society that focus on community service and professional development. During his tenure, the UTS Chapter was internationally the most awarded chapter from over 320 other universities in Australia, New Zealand and the United States,.
Since 2019, Nelson has been program director of the UTS Case Team, an internationally awarded program for UTS Business School students competing in case solving. The UTS Case Team has placed 1st in six international case competitions since 2019. The initiative includes the UTS Global Case Competiiton, UTS Case Cup and UTS Leadership insights interview series, and partners with ASX companies including Macquarie Group and QBE Insurance. For his work on engaging students across the university through the UTS Case Team, Nelson was awarded the 2024 UTS Vice-Chancellors Learning and Teaching award for student engagement.
From 2020 to 2023, Nelson was Deputy Head (Staff) in the UTS Accounting Discipline Group, and currently serves on the Editorial Board of Pacific Accounting Review.

Maria-Luise Ossimitz is a lecturer in accounting at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) Business School, focusing on accounting information systems. . She obtained a PhD in information systems at WU Vienna (Wirtschaftsuniversitat Wien) where she also completed a Master's in Business Administration and Science (by thesis).
Before her academic career, Maria-Luise was an IT project manager in an Austrian Insurance company overseeing business process management and the implementation of SAP Enterprise Solutions and worked for SAP Austria as a Business Intelligence course developer. She also taught at WU Vienna, Victoria University and Singapore.
Maria-Luise's teaching and research areas are accounting information systems, data warehousing, data science, business intelligence and business analytics, and her research investigates the impact of Business Intelligence solutions and Big Data (Analytics) on organisations and individuals.- Academic

Greg Pazmandy has been involved in accounting education at the tertiary level for over thirty years and has developed and presented undergraduate, postgraduate and executive programs in Australia and internationally. Previously he worked in the accounting profession with a chartered firm. He also works in the profession providing accounting solutions that support the development of efficient business practices for small to medium sized businesses.
Greg lectures in the area of business analysis and computer based accounting. His research interests include corporate governance, capital markets and the application of information technology for the development of efficiencies in business processes using accounting information.- Academic

Hannah Pham is a Lecturer in the Accounting Discipline Group at the UTS Business School, which she joined in 2016. She coordinates and teaches Business Analytics Foundations, a core subject in the Master of Business Analytics, and Cost Management and Analysis, a core management accounting subject in the Master of Professional Accounting.
Hannah received her Master of Business in Accounting and Finance from the University of Technology Sydney in 2010 (Dean’s Merit) and completed her PhD in Accounting at UTS in 2016.
With a background spanning Chemical Engineering and Accounting, Hannah brings experience working across both natural and social science research domains. Her research focuses on management control, performance measurement systems, and environmental accounting, particularly within organisations pursuing both economic and environmental sustainability. She has applied management control concepts across diverse sectors, including agribusiness, early‑stage ventures, government, not‑for‑profit organisations, and biotechnology industries.
Hannah’s methodological expertise includes both quantitative and qualitative approaches, such as field studies, simulation modelling, and sustainability benchmarking. From 2011 to 2016, she contributed to the CRDC‑funded project “Australian Cotton: Accounting for value chain sustainability and competitive advantage” ($372,875), where she examined integrated economic and environmental management systems for Australian cotton growers.
Hannah is currently a Chief Investigator on the UTS–CRDC Project (2025–2027), “An evaluation of cotton fibre waste processing and composting alternatives: Comparison of business models, GHG emissions and commercialisation opportunities.” This externally funded project ($533,454) involves a transdisciplinary team including Prof. Christopher Bajada, Dr. Paul Brown, Dr. Yujie Liang, Dr. Oliver Knox, A/Prof. Brad Murray, and Dr. Megan Murray.
Hannah is a member of the UTS Business Intelligence and Data Analytics (BIDA) Centre, and also serves as Co‑Director of the IBISWorld 3Ps Program (People, Planet, Profit) alongside Dr. Samir Ghannam, supporting student engagement and development in sustainability, innovation, and business analytics.Beyond her cotton‑industry research, Hannah has contributed to interdisciplinary initiatives such as the Bio‑Economy (Algae) Project and the NSW Health ABF Costing Project led by Professor Prabhu Sivabalan.

Dr Mila Radomskaia is a lecturer in the Accounting Department at UTS Business School. She has taught across a number of undergraduate accounting subjects, including first-year subjects (Accounting and Accountability, Accounting, Business and Society) and specialised accounting subjects (Accounting Standards and Regulations, Cost Management Systems). Mila's research interests are board structure and diversity, director labour market, and CEO compensation.
Prior to joining UTS Business School, Mila had worked for 14 years as a professional accountant in various areas of financial accounting and analysis in large corporations. Her professional responsibilities included managing and supervising the general ledger reconciliations, managing the fixed assets ledger, conducting income tax reconciliations, intra-group reconciliations, preparing financial statements, supervising subsidiaries’ closing processes and preparing consolidated reports, training new accounting staff, and liaising with external and internal auditors.

Yaowen Shan is a Professor in the Discipline of Accounting at the University of Technology Sydney. He is currently serving as the Australian President of the Accounting and Finance Association of Australia and New Zealand (AFAANZ). His research lies at the intersection of accounting and financial economics, with a strong focus on how accounting and non-accounting information influence capital markets, regulatory design, corporate governance, financial reporting quality, and executive compensation. Yaowen has authored more than 50 publications in leading international journals, including The Accounting Review, Review of Accounting Studies, Contemporary Accounting Research, Journal of Corporate Finance, Journal of Banking and Finance, Abacus, Accounting and Finance, and Australian Journal of Management. He currently serves as Co-Editor-in-Chief of Australian Accounting Review and Accounting Research Journal, and as an Associate Editor of Accounting and Finance, Australian Journal of Management, Journal of International Accounting, Auditing and Taxation and China Journal of Accounting Research. Yaowen has received multiple Best Paper Awards at major international accounting and finance conferences. He has secured over AUD $2 million in competitive research funding, including four ARC Discovery Grants, and several other national competitive grants such as those from CIFR and AFAANZ. Yaowen is a Fellow of Certified Practising Accountant (FCPA) and a Chartered Accountant (CA).

A/Professor Helen Spiropoulos has a portfolio of research in the areas of Sustainability Reporting, Gender diversity, Financial Reporting, Executive Compensation, Corporate Governance, and Mergers and Acquisitions.
She holds a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology and a Bachelor of Business with First Class Honours from UTS, for which she received the University Medal. In 2014 she completed a PhD in Accounting at UTS and received the distinguished Chancellor List Award. Her doctoral work was also recognised internationally, receiving the Best Paper Award at the JCAE Conference in 2016.
Helen's research has been published in leading journals including The Accounting Review, Journal of Management Accounting Research and Journal of Corporate Finance, and has also featured in prominent media outlets including The Sydney Morning Herald, Australian Financial Review, BOSS Magazine, ABC Radio, 2ESR, and The Conversation.
