BIO

Gungun Lin is an Associate Professor at the School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences, UTS. He is a core member of the Institute for Biomedical Materials and Devices (IBMD). Prior to joining UTS, Gungun received his Master of Science Degree from the University of Ulm in Germany and his PhD degree with the highest honor (Summa Cum Laude) from Chemnitz University of Technology in Germany. 

 

Gungun leads a research group of "Intelligent Bio-MEMS" focusing on both fundamental and applied aspects of biosensing, microfluidics and lab-on-a-chip technologies. His work includes the design, fabrication, and characterization of smart, small-scale sensors, actuators and robots and their integration with microfluidic systems for biomedical applications. He specializes in studying the magneto-electrical properties and magneto-mechanics of functional micro- and nanostructures, e.g. multilayer metallic thin films and nanoparticle-polymer composites, as new-generation magneto-micro-electro-mechanical systems (magneto-MEMS) for sensing, acutation and robotic applications, and investigates how these systems dynamically interact with complex environments, including fluidic flows. Gungun's research has been published in prominent journals, including Chem, Advanced Materials, ACS Nano, Nano Letters, Analytical Chemistry, Lab on a Chip. 11 of his works have received journal cover story highlights. In the past five years, 100% of his works have been published in high-quality Q1 journals (SJR), with an average impact factor of over 10. Gungun's research has attracted >$6M in funding, including ARC DECRA and NHMRC Early Career/EL2 Fellowship, ARC Discovery Project and major initiatives, such as ARC Research Hub for IDEAL and Australia-China Joint Research Center for Point-of-Care Testing.
