BIO
Kylie is an experienced social researcher, writer, and educator. Awarded a Ph.D. from the Australian National University in 2012, Kylie’s expertise covers a diverse range of social, political, environmental, and health issues in Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, and Australia. She has 15 years of research and teaching experience in Papua New Guinea (PNG). Kylie also lived and worked in PNG from 2019 to 2021 as the Director of Centre for Social Research at Divine Word University. She has published widely in academia and regularly contributes to the public debate on international issues via blogs, webinars, and media interviews. She has also written a book about Corporate Social Responsibility and Natural Resource Conflict in PNG and Indonesia (Routledge).
Kylie is particularly passionate about participatory social research methods in an international development context. Her work has included community engagement on gender-based violence, commissioned reports on health service delivery; establishing new collaborations between stakeholders; and targeted research-skills training for community researchers and public servants. Storytelling, interviews, impact mapping, actor-network analysis, children’s drawings, surveys, and workshops are among the various tools she uses. Kylie has particular experience working with marginalised populations, including youth, people living with disabilities, diverse sexualities, and older people.
