Associate Professor Nicole Sutton is highly engaged researcher, who delivers high-quality evidence that informs policy and practice across the aged care sector. As specialist in management accounting, A/Prof Sutton has deep expertise in how financial, management and performance systems influence organisations’ behaviour and decision-making. She has studied such systems in various fields including agriculture, R&D, supply chains, universities, end-of-life care and aged care. A/Prof Sutton has a strong track record of attracting grant income, supervising research students and publishing in top-tier journals in accounting, ageing and health.

Much of A/Prof Sutton’s current work focuses on improving the sustainability of Australia’s aged care services. She is a co-founder of the UTS Aging Research Collaborative (UARC), where she is the co-lead of the Business & Strategy Theme and lead author of the highly cited biannual Australia’s Aged Care Sector report series. She leads major collaborative projects with industry, including the UTS-StewartBrown strategic research partnership.

A/Prof Sutton frequently engages with government, industry and community to ensure research programs align with stakeholders’ priorities and insights are translated effectively. She regularly co-authors submissions to government, presents at industry conferences, engages with media, writes op-eds and gives invited presentations both domestically and abroad.

A/Prof Sutton is a passionate educator who has implemented a series of award-winning, research-informed, pioneering teaching innovations. She is particularly interested in enhancing students’ learning through sustained, collaborative programs of research-informed development, exploring how learning technologies can improve students’ sense of belonging, feedback literacy and career-readiness.

Outside her regular duties, has written for The Conversation and The Sydney Morning Herald. She is currently Treasurer of Palliative Care NSW.
