Dr Flavio Pileggi is a Senior Lecturer (eq. to "Senior Assistant Professor") in Computer Science within the Faculty of Engineering and IT at University of Technology Sydney (Australia).

Previously, after a short experience as a Software Engineer, he held research-focused positions at leading institutions in Spain, New Zealand, France, and Australia, as well as guest positions in Colombia, China and in the Netherlands.

He received a M.Sc. in Computer Engineering from Universita della Calabria (Italy) in 2005 and a Ph.D. (Cum Laude) in Computer Networks from Universidad Politecnica de Valencia (Spain) in 2011.

As a specialist in Knowledge and System Engineering, his research is currently focusing on the application of novel techniques and methods to enable human-centric socially sustainable solutions with emphasis on socio-technical systems. His technical background, combined with his inter and cross-disciplinary research approach, is contributing to the creation of systems that prioritise a socio-economic and environmental value to drive positive, fundamental change. As part of his broad research interests, more recently, he has turned his attention also to major global and socio-scientific issues, such as Sustainable Development and Climate Change.

Flavio teaches in the broad area of Computer Science/Information Systems and he is excited to apply teaching approaches and methodologies which foster creativity and innovation within collaborative and interactive learning environments. Considering his extensive experience at an international level, he has enjoyed adapting his teaching style to different contexts and situations, striving for hybrid approaches to maximise students' engagement and their overall learning experience.

He has published well over 50 research papers in high-quality journals and top-ranked conferences. Additionally, he has been involved in more than 10 funded collaborative research projects. In line with his research interests, he is currently serving as an Editorial Board Member for Discover Analytics (Springer), Discover Data (Springer) and Sustainability (MDPI).

Flavio has been awarded at an international level in both research (Best Paper Award at ICWMC in 2006) and teaching (2022 and 2024 by AEMG Education).
