BIO
Anna FitzGerald is pursuing a PhD in Law at the University of Technology, Sydney. Her research explores how recent discoveries in the Biosocial Sciences (and in neuroplasticity in particular) impact on our understanding of the concept of disability, the human right to education and disability equality in education more generally. In her research Anna adopts a neuroplasticity-informed approach and from this perspective she considers how the law attends to the problems of educational justice and inclusion which arise for children with learning-related disabilities in Australian schools.
Anna has over 10 years experience working as a lawyer and has worked in a variety of settings: at a large corporate law firm, a boutique entertainment law firm, and as in-house legal counsel. Anna has volunteered in various roles throughout her career within the disability, art-law and education space and was appointed to the Board of a non-profit organisation which aimed to improve literacy oucomes and access to education for Australian children through the publication and dissemination of culturally-relevant classroom 'readers' created by Australian indigenous authors and illustrators.
Before commencing her PhD at UTS, Anna began PhD studies on scholarship at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver in Canada and prior to this completed her Master of Laws at Trinity College Dublin in Ireland.
