BIO

Mayan Alam is a PhD researcher at the University of Technology Sydney, developing surface-engineering strategies to improve bone–tendon integration using decellularised kangaroo tendon xenografts. Her research combines biomaterials engineering, surface modification, plasma activation techniques and biomimetic mineralisation to engineer bioactive graft interfaces that promote integration with host bone. With a background in biomedical engineering and experience in biofabrication and tissue engineering, Mayan brings a multidisciplinary approach to the development of regenerative biomaterials. Driven by a focus on translating materials innovation into clinically relevant solutions, her work aims to advance next-generation biomaterials for orthopaedic repair and tissue regeneration.

Her interests span biomaterials, surface engineering, tissue engineering, biofabrication, bone regeneration and orthopaedic biomaterials, with a strong focus on translating materials-based strategies into clinically relevant technologies.
