BIO
I am a third-year PhD candidate in Environmental Engineering at the University of Technology Sydney, specialising in sustainable microalgae-based technologies. My research focuses on carbon capture, the development of high-performance biolubricants derived from microalgae, and the production of cost-effective biochar for the removal of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) from contaminated water. My work contributes to addressing important global challenges, including climate change mitigation, circular bioeconomy development, and water sustainability.
I have expertise in environmental analytical methods, particularly PFAS characterization and monitoring. I am experienced in PFAS analysis using US EPA methods, including sample preparation via Solid Phase Extraction (SPE) and quantification by LC–MS/MS, generating reliable data to support environmental assessment and remediation.
During my PhD, I have published several first-author papers in high-impact journals, including American Chemical Society ACS Sustainable Chemistry & Engineering, Bioresource Technology, Journal of Environmental Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science and Pollution Research, and Science of The Total Environment. I have also presented my research at international conferences, including Green Technology for Sustainable Environment 2024 in Poland. I have contributed as a reviewer for the Journal of Water Process Engineering.
In addition, I have translated my research into practical applications through an industry project with Sydney Water, where I was appointed by Professor Long Nghiem as a key researcher to investigate the causes of taste and odour issues at a drinking water filtration plant. In early 2026, I was awarded a highly competitive APR Internship Scholarship to work with Aerofloat Australia, where I am contributing to a large-scale PFAS remediation project.
Beyond research, I actively promote STEM diversity and international collaboration through my involvement with UTS International Relations and the Vietnam–Australia Scholars & Experts Association (VASEA). My contributions have been recognised through several prestigious awards, including the UTS HDR Research Excellence Team Award (Winner), the HDR Women in Engineering and IT Award (Distinction), the Vice-Chancellor’s Conference Fund Award, the VASEA Academic Achievement Award, and a Certificate of Commendation from the Embassy of Vietnam in Australia.
