BIO

Fati (Fatemeh) Khosravi is a PhD researcher in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), working across UTS, UNSW and the University of Sydney. Her research focuses on the development of advanced biosensing technologies for sensitive and rapid biomarker detection, with particular interests in optical and plasmonic biosensors, electrochemical biosensors, liquid biopsy, nanofabrication, surface engineering and biointerface chemistry.

Her current research focuses on optical and plasmonic biosensing platforms for label-free detection of biological targets and small biomolecules. She combines nanofabrication and microfabrication techniques with functional surface modification, biomolecular immobilisation, microarray technologies and optical characterisation to develop miniaturised sensing platforms. Her technical experience includes electron-beam lithography, photolithography, ion beam etching, physical vapour deposition, oxygen plasma treatment, polymer-based surface functionalisation and microarray spotting, as well as optical and image-based analysis for quantitative biosensing.

Prior to her PhD, Fati's Master's research focused on the development of an electrochemical biosensor for microRNA detection, providing experience in electrochemical sensing and nucleic-acid-based biomarker detection. Across her research, she is particularly interested in integrating nanotechnology, surface chemistry and biosensing approaches for the detection of clinically relevant biomarkers, with an overarching interest in liquid biopsy and the development of sensitive, rapid and potentially portable diagnostic technologies.
