BIO

Kanchan Sharma is a PhD researcher scholar in Environmental Engineering at the University of Technology Sydney. Her research focuses on developing thin-film composite nanofiltration membranes for selective ion separation, seawater pretreatment, desalination and resource recovery.

Her expertise includes polyamine-, polyamide- and hydrogel-based membrane fabrication using interfacial polymerisation, membrane performance optimisation, organic fouling assessment and water-quality analysis.

She is experienced in operating laboratory-scale nanofiltration and reverse-osmosis systems and applying analytical techniques.

Before joining UTS, She worked as a Senior Research Fellow at IIT Gandhinagar (Gujarat), supporting environmental impact assessments and wastewater-treatment improvements for the textile industry. She also worked as a Project Associate at Hindustan Petroleum Green R&D, conducting fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) research on crude oil cracking, process optimisation and analytical evaluation. During her time at HPCL R&D, she worked on two main projects such as propylene maximization and bottom cracking additives.

She has completed her masters from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Gandhinagar in the domain of Chemical Engineering. She has published her research on Q1 journals and also actively involved in professional and community engagement, serving as Young Water Professional (YWP) in International Water Association (IWA).
