BIO

Sanskriti is an aspiring digital anthropologist and ethnographer who studies internet ontologies and cultures. She especially likes to explore self-curation and relational developments within social media communities. Her study balances the current Western-centricity of digital media research by ethnographically investigating the interplay between self-presentations by, and perceived authenticities of a subset of influencers- family vloggers in a digitally developing nation like India. It regards this interplay as a plausible sign of parasociality and broadly asks the question whether this parasociality manifests a change in the Indian social fabric in terms of familial gender constructions.

As a woman of colour, Sanskriti is aware of her sociocultural positioning and therefore considers gender and race as the overriding premises of not only her research, but often her other writing pieces as well. She feels deeply about many subjects that may be unassociated with what she asserts are the major segments of her research. Stray animals, work-life balance, bullying culture, philosophical interpretations of everydayness are a few among such subjects. You may be able to see glimpses of these in four opinion pieces of hers that have been published in the national newspaper of Singapore- The Straits Times. She has also written two creative writing pieces and one news article for two of University of Technology Sydney's in-house flagship magazines- The Comma and Vertigo, and one weblog for the University at Buffalo, Singapore Institute of Management's official Information Technology (IT) webzine.
