BIO

My name is Zainab Zahr, and I am a Registered Nurse, educator, and researcher dedicated to advancing nursing education and improving patient outcomes through evidence-based practice. My professional philosophy emphasizes holistic care, empathy, and the transformative role of nursing in health systems.

I am an alumna of the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) and have been teaching within the School of Nursing for the past two years. My clinical experience spans more than eight years across public and private healthcare settings, with expertise in Paediatrics and Perioperative nursing—particularly Anaesthetics and Recovery. I have also worked in Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratories and Intensive Care Units, providing a comprehensive understanding of acute care environments.

Academically, I hold a Master’s degree, a Graduate Certificate, and a Diploma in Clinical Nursing and Teaching. My research interests focus on improving nursing education, patient safety, and addressing systemic challenges within healthcare.

Currently, I am engaged in several research projects, including:

  • Investigating mathematical illiteracy and strategies to improve mathematical outcomes among undergraduate nursing students.
  • Conducting a systematic review on medication errors.
  • Leading a scoping review on the impact of study tours in nursing education.
  • Completing a narrative review exploring the implications of medical gaslighting, and gender and racial bias experienced by women in healthcare.

In 2024, I led a cohort of 21 nursing students, alongside public health students, on a study tour to Fiji as part of the New Colombo Plan initiative. This program provided an enriching and transformative experience, fostering cultural competence, global health perspectives, and collaborative learning. In 2025, I contributed to the Pacific Leadership Program, facilitating leadership development and capacity-building initiatives in partnership with the country of Nauru. These experiences reflect my commitment to advancing nursing education through international engagement and leadership

At the core of my work—whether in clinical practice, education, or research—is the belief in the power of nursing to create meaningful change. My goal is to empower future nurses to lead with empathy, think critically, and deliver care that is both scientifically rigorous and deeply human.
