FUNDED RESEARCH

I am an award winning historian specialising in the fields of historiography, history education, public history, memory studies and historical consciousness. While my research focuses on Australian history, I have also researched and collaborated with colleagues in Sweden, Canada, the UK, and the USA. The comparative history of contested national narratives and memory is an important part of my scholarship.

History is uniquely located at a critical nexus of national life, generating heated public, political and professional debates over the national curriculum, for example, as well as commemorations such as Anzac Day and Australia Day. These discussions require critical and inclusive engagement from the academy: I believe passionately in the importance of producing research that extends existing boundaries of disciplinary knowledge and method, and also reaches across multiple audiences and contexts.
