FUNDED RESEARCH

Fred's research focuses on species ecology and biogeography, examining how species and communities interact with their environments across spatial and temporal scales. Using advanced statistical methods and modelling, He assesses biodiversity patterns, species responses to environmental change, and the effectiveness of conservation strategies in terrestrial and marine ecosystems.

Fred investigates the ecological drivers of community diversity changes, integrating interdisciplinary approaches to understand how climate and human disturbances—past, present, and future—reshape ecosystems. By identifying potential threats to species conservation, his work informs prioritised conservation planning. To better understand ecosystem dynamics, he analyses past ecological changes to predict how future climate change and human activities may impact biodiversity and environmental stability.

Fred is involved in several collaborative projects as a principal or co-investigator, including (but not limited to):

  • Simulating vegetation responses to climate change on a global scale.
  • Predicting species population trajectories under future climate scenarios and potential management interventions.
  • Identifying ecological drivers of species extirpation, focusing on climate change and human activities.
  • Assessing the impact of invasive species and human activities on native ecosystems and optimising mitigation strategies, including cost estimates for different policy approaches.
