DrGermana Eckert

Germana's research focuses on plurilingualism, translanguaging, and language practices in multilingual contexts. Her doctoral research drew on Bourdieu's conceptual and analytical frameworks to examine how linguistic hierarchies, language ideologies, and forms of linguicism shape the experiences of culturally and linguistically diverse students and teachers in educational settings.

Building on this foundation, Germana's research explores the social and educational implications of language use, language policy, and approaches to multilingualism across a range of contexts. Her work examines how language practices influence participation, identity, inclusion, and opportunity for plurilingual speakers. More recently, her research has extended beyond educational settings to include policing contexts, investigating the ways in which institutional language practices can support or hinder equitable engagement with linguistically diverse communities.

Through this work, Germana seeks to promote more inclusive, asset-based approaches to multilingualism that recognise and value the linguistic resources and experiences of diverse individuals and communities.
