BIO

Professor Louise Hickman is a registered nurse clinician-scientist who holds a Master in Public Health and an implementation science PhD in models to improve care of the older person. Professor Hickman has an exceptional record in senior leadership within the university sector, service and leadership appointments within industry groups, clinical research, governance positions within health and higher education.

Professor Hickman research program builds upon the crucial urgency to address unmet chronic health care needs in our ageing population, and moving care from a traditional acute episodic care model of treating one patient, one disease, to a person-centred, culturally safe care continuum model across care settings. To do this I have received a career total of $2.9M in national competitive research funding, conducted 20 experimental studies, 3 clinical trials and several mixed methods studies to improve patient outcomes.

Professor Hickman has been appointed and invited to sit on a number of internal and external industry committees and reference groups for interdisciplinary clinical research and curricula.

Professor Louise Hickman is Director of Studies Palliative Care Programs, IMPACCT Faculty of Health. In this leadership role Professor Hickman is responsible for the quality management; curriculum design and accreditation of a suite of dynamic clinically relevant palliative care postgraduate courses and programs. These courses (Master of Palliative; Graduate Diploma in Palliative care; Graduate Certificate in Palliative Care) are designed to address the significant need to build palliative care workforce capacity across the health care system.
