BIO

I am an academic, author, and commentator working at the intersection of technology and geopolitics. My research and public engagement examine how transformative technologies—artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and critical minerals—are reshaping global power dynamics, and how Australia can navigate these shifts with foresight and strategic purpose.

With a career spanning technology startups, multinational corporations, and universities across three continents, I bring a perspective that integrates scholarly depth with practical policy relevance. I have led and contributed to influential industry reports and peer-reviewed publications, and advised government bodies, industry associations, think tanks, and media organisations on issues at the nexus of technology and policy.

I am the author of three books and numerous journal articles, including contributions to Research Policy, Technological Forecasting & Social Change, Journal of World Business, and the Australian Journal of International Affairs, among others. My research focuses on emerging technologies, science and technology policy, industrial innovation, and innovation-driven entrepreneurship.

In addition, I regularly contribute commentary to leading outlets such as the Australian Financial Review, The Conversation, Australian Outlook, East Asia Forum, Lowy Institute: The Interpreter, Pearls and Irritations, The Diplomat, and The National Interest. These contributions provide analysis on global supply chains, digital transformation, and industrial restructuring in the context of intensifying great-power rivalry.

Whether mapping global AI research networks or assessing Australia’s strategic position in the green-technology transition, my work seeks to connect empirical research, policy engagement, and strategic foresight.

I welcome opportunities for research collaboration and the supervision of doctoral students in these fields.
