BIO
Ian has worked and researching at the social-technical interface for 15+ years in the community development and engineering sectors. His technical focus has predominantly been in the field of water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) and his practice and approach to change processes are based in strength-based approaches to change, and human-centred design.
He has facilitated training in Australia and internationally. He has managed and delivered a range of thematic partnerships and projects with a poverty alleviation and social justice theme, primarily with an international focus. Ian’s expertise extends to partnerships and capacity development in the WASH sector however, his project and program experience crosses a variety of disciplines, often with capacity development and behaviour change at its heart.
More recently, his PhD research focused on designing for motivations in community-led rural water supply, determining what drives those responsible for water management, and how their motivations can be supported and sustained.
Ian also holds a PhD, University of Technology Sydney (2021); and Bachelor of Environmental Engineering with Honours from the University of Western Australia (2002).
