FUNDED RESEARCH
Current research topics (Scholarships available for potential PHD students):
· Human-robot collaboration (HRC): robot-interpretable human models, machine learning and computational intelligence for HRC and robot learning, human-robot trust modelling, brain-robot interfaces, cognitive conflict management, model-based assistance-as-needed paradigms, role arbitration, human intention recognition, safety frameworks, human-robot teaming, optimisation of human-robot teams, human behaviour change in HRC, and sociotechnical systems principles for human-robot teaming.
· Field robotics and infrastructure robotics: robot sensing and perception in complex environments, robot learning, computational intelligence-based optimisation of robotic systems, collision avoidance, real-time motion planning, new design methodologies, coverage planning, multi-robot systems, and robot control.
· Applied robotics: development of intelligent robotic systems for real-world applications, including bridge inspection and maintenance, construction automation, underwater structure inspection and maintenance, manufacturing, logistics automation, maintenance of truss structure (e.g. electric power transmission towers), and inspection and maintenance in confined spaces.
