Senior Lecturer

Discipline of Enterprise Innovation and Impact

BIO

Najmeh Hassanli is a Senior Lecturer in the UTS Business School. Her research explores how participation, connection and belonging are experienced and fostered across community, organisational and cultural settings. She is particularly interested in the collective practices and often-overlooked forms of work that enable people to come together and participate in social and organisational life. Her research has examined these questions across a range of contexts, including community organisations, events and cultural participation, migration and displacement, and academic life, with growing attention to care, relational labour, and the practices through which participation and belonging are fostered.

Najmeh works closely with community organisations, using participatory, community-engaged and increasingly arts-based and visual approaches. She is committed to research that advances academic knowledge while supporting community and organisational practice. In recognition of this work, she received the UTS Business School Productive Partnerships Award in 2025.

She is Vice-President of the Australian and New Zealand Association for Leisure Studies (ANZALS), serves on the Editorial Advisory Boards of Event Management and Annals of Leisure Research, and co-chairs the UTS Business School Social Justice and Inclusion Committee.

Najmeh teaches across the Bachelor of Management and Master of Event Management programs and supervises HDR students. She welcomes inquiries from prospective research candidates interested in events, festivals and cultural participation; community organisations and social change; migration, participation and belonging; care and relational labour; academic work and higher education; and participatory, arts-based and community-engaged research.
