Filipe M. B. Moraes is a PhD candidate and casual lecturer in the School of Mechanical & Mechatronic Engineering, and School of Professional Practice and Leadership at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS). Drawing on a decade of manufacturing and R&D experience, including operations management and sustainable innovation projects at world-leader industries (i.e., HEXAGON, Johnson & Johnson, and L'Oreal) he works at the intersection of academia and industry impact, translating shop-floor realities into rigorous research questions. Filipe also holds a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt and ISO14001 (Environmental Management System) auditor certification.

Filipe’s research lines investigate how complementary Quality Management capabilities and Industry 4.0 digital enablers accelerate industrial decarbonisation without compromising operational excellence. Supported by a UTS International Research Scholarship, the study builds an evidence-based framework that manufacturing managers and policymakers can deploy to reach carbon reduction targets.

Beyond process optimisation, Filipe is recognised for his expertise in Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and ecodesign, creating a methodology that simultaneously boosts product effectiveness and environmental performance, validated through cradle-to-grave studies in large-scale manufacturing companies.

Filipe also works as a casual lecturer and tutor for undergraduate, Masters and MBA subjects at UTS, touching the topics of Innovation, Risk Management, Supply Chain, Supply and Operations Planning, Quality Management, and Shop Floor Optimisation:

49680 - Value Chain Engineering Systems

49309 - Quality Planning and Analysis
