FUNDED RESEARCH

My research examines how people and institutions adapt to technological change, and how these experiences inform public policy and the design of organisational arrangements. My current work focuses on AI, digital government and professional practice. Research on shadow AI in public administration examines the relationship between organisational rules, operational needs and everyday technological use. My comparative technology-policy research investigates how different governance arrangements organise decisions about AI.

I also examine how AI changes the production and evaluation of knowledge, including how institutions recognise expertise, organise verification and allocate responsibility. Universities, academic publishing and research funding are central interests within this programme. My continuing research on platforms and urban governance explores local adaptation, coordination and self-organisation.

Across these areas, I combine qualitative fieldwork, policy and institutional analysis, and design research. I develop and assess approaches, including temporal-contextual probing, design probes, and sociotechnical mapping, examining what they reveal, their limitations, and how they can work alongside other forms of evidence.
